Resorts
Naama Bay
The most popular area of Sharm el sheikh, Naama Bay has a host of modern shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and many hotels have a private section of the coarse, desert sand beach. There are plenty of watersports and diving centres, whilst jetties are dotted along the coastline, protecting the coral reefs and providing access for swimming.
Sharks Bay
10km to the north of Naama Bay and only a short shuttle bus or taxi ride away lies the Al Pasha coast and Sharks Bay. This area is popular for diving and snorkeling. Many of the hotels are built in to the rocky cliffs here and the views across the water to Tiran Island and stunning.
Um el Sid
Um el Sid is situated 7km south of Naama Bay on a headland of impressively steep cliffs upon which a number of Sharm’s hotels can be found. This is a quiet area renowned for its coral reefs and marine life, and access to the sea for swimming is often via a jetty to protect the natural coast. This is a popular choice for a peaceful break.
Nabq Bay
Relaxing Nabq Bay is 20km north along the coastline from Naama Bay and is set on the edge of the Nabq National Park. This is a beautiful area of Desert Mountains, sand dunes and coral reefs teeming with colourful marine life. The gently shelving beaches of the wide, shallow lagoon are especially popular with families.
Climate
From November to February the daytime temperatures around the Red Sea rarely fall below 24c. The water temperatures average between 20c and 23c during the winter months.
Food
Egyptian cuisine is based around lamb, fish, chicken, tomatoes, garlic, olives, eggs onions and a variety of spices, fruits, nuts and pastries both savoury and sweet.
