Destination Fact File
Switzerland's third largest city is ideally situated on the banks of the beautiful Lake Geneva with a backdrop of hills and mountains, and split down the middle by the River Rhone. Its location at the foot of the Swiss Alps makes it an ideal starting point for skiing holidays, but stop a little longer and there's more to enjoy: great food and a perfect location. A smallish, compact city of 178,000 people, Geneva has a walkable central area with a cathedral and Place Bourg-de-Four, a public square which has become the 'in' place to meet in the old town, many free museums and of course the lake. The Art and History Museum is vast with everything from paintings to weaponry, while the international Red Cross & Red Crescent Museum is a history of the humanitarian bodies.
