Once every ten years, in accordance with a solemn oath sworn by their forefathers nearly four hundred years ago, some 1500 residents of the Bavarian village of Oberammergau re-enact the last week of the Life of Jesus, His Suffering, Death, Resurrection and Transfiguration. This, incorporating a massed choir and orchestra, takes place each day on a vast open-air stage, in front of a covered auditorium that can hold up to 5,000 spectators, drawn from all over the world to witness this truly moving and extraordinary event.
