Edinburgh is marvellous city situated in the lowlands of Scotland. The skyline of Edinburgh is dominated by the world-famous castle which sits regally atop the castle rock and watches over Edinburgh. The castle plays a vital role in the life of Edinburgh and is still active and hosts the Edinburgh Military Tattoo annually. It is probably the most visited attraction in Edinburgh and trips can be taken through its many halls and around the grounds and the traveller can learn about the history that has taken place within the walls.
Of course, Edinburgh is home to its namesake festival which attracts travellers from around the world. During the festival, you find a lot of famous people carrying out performances as well as stalls and other forms of entertainment and this makes it the world’s largest performing arts festival.
Edinburgh, as you would expect, has had its fair share of famous residents, these include Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. More recently it has been linked with the story of J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter novels. She moved to Edinburgh and famously began the first book whilst sitting in a coffee shop there. Was the castle the inspiration for Hogwarts?
The Edinburgh Hogmanay, which is the end of the year celebration has become a famous affair, however this is now a ticketed event and limited to 100000. The whole of Hogmanay covers four days and nights of celebrations and does not just cover New Year’s Eve which makes it a party to remember.
