    Fly from Norwich Airport to view the Northern Lights,

    Currency = Pound Sterling

    Norwich Airport offers this once in a lifetime opportunity to see the mesmerising beauty of the Northern lights flying on Feb 15th, 2018.

    The Aurora Borealis often referred to as the Northern Lights, the polar lights or the Polar dawn is a breath taking natural wonder of the world and can only be seen over or near the magnetic poles of the Earth.

    The Northern lights are a result of collisions of gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere colliding with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. The variations you get in colours are due to the types of gas particles that collide. The most common colours are pale yellow or green which is produced by oxygen. The rarer red’s, blue’s or purplish colours are produced by high altitude oxygen or nitrogen.

    For the journey, the traveller will arrive at the airport and have a briefing with an experienced astronomer before boarding the flight. On board the plane, free snacks are provided throughout the journey which will take the traveller to a location north of the Shetland Isles. About 25 minutes before arriving at the holding position the plane will be made as dark as possible allowing for the travellers to get used to the dark. The plane will then take up a holding pattern some 35,000 to 40,000 feet high. Whilst the plane is in the holding pattern the on-board guest astronomers will explain in more detail about the Northern Lights all the time waiting for the Northern lights to appear and with a 90% success rate there is a good chance the traveller will experience a small to full blown Northern light experience.

    When the Northern lights are visible, every traveller will have the opportunity to see the lights with a seat rotation system in place so everyone can get a clear and unobstructed view. If on the rare occasion the lights are not seen the astronomers will highlight the stars and planets giving details on them so the traveller will still get an amazing experience.
