Norwich Airport offers daily flights to Amsterdam the whole year round. Amsterdam is the capital of Holland and a world-famous City break destination. The mild temperatures throughout the year make Amsterdam a very popular destination for all kinds of travellers, with the winter average of 3ºC and a summer average of 18ºC reflecting the mild temperatures.

Amsterdam is as vibrant city which is shown in its culture. Amsterdam started life as a humble fishing village but rose to power in the 17th century and was at the centre of trade especially for diamonds and finances. Amsterdam still has the oldest stock exchange in the world. The famous canals were created during this time as a means of transport as the city expanded. The canals are now a UNESCO heritage feature.

Amsterdam has been home to some very famous residents, none more so than the famous painters Rembrandt van Rijn, Vincent van Gogh and the diarist Anne Frank.

Amsterdam has many cultural places to visit, but some musts are surely places which pay tribute to its famous residents. The Rijksmuseum which is the largest museum in Holland, houses many works of art by Rembrandt and is situated close to the Van Gogh museum which is dedicated to Van Gogh and his fellow contemporaries, the Van Gogh museum houses the largest collection of Van Gogh paintings and drawings in the world.

Anne Frank’s House, close to the Westerkerk, in Amsterdam was the home of the diarist Anne Frank. The young Anne Frank kept the diary during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam and tells the harrowing story of her families attempt to hide in vain, during World War 2. The family were captured before the end of the war and most members including Anne did not survive however the diaries did and were published not long after the end of the war. They live on as a reminder of hope.

Amsterdam has something to offer most travellers. You might want to experience its nightlife, it’s café culture, its tulip markets or its leisurely canal cruises. You might also want to hire a pedal cycle from the many locations throughout the city and cycle around this intoxicatingly wonderful and vibrant city.
