Norwich Airport offers direct seasonal flights to the Greek Island of Crete between the months of May to October flying every Tuesday.

Crete is the largest of all the Greek islands sitting in the Mediterranean Sea and has a wonderfully warm climate the whole year round. During the warmest summer month, the average temperature is around 26ºC and the average range between the months of May to October are 20ºC to 24ºC. As you would expect with the island sitting in the Mediterranean Sea the water temperatures between the months of May to October range on average from 19ºC to 25ºC.

Crete is famous for having the oldest documented culture in Europe, that of the Minoan Civilisation, and as such has a wonderfully deep culture and many historical places of interest to visit on the island.

Crete has over 650 miles of coastline and as a result has countless sandy beaches. Many of the larger beaches near built up areas are very popular with travellers and have very good beach side amenities in cafes and restaurants and good transportation routes around. The popular beaches have many water sports centres where the traveller can take part in sports they are experienced in or try for the first time, these range from jet ski hire, snorkelling, paddle boarding, small boat hire to scuba diving. Equipment hire is usually provided at the water sports centres as well. If it is a little peace and quiet you seek when you are on the beach then take a trip away from the populated areas and follow the coasts roads and sooner or later you will find a tranquil spot where you can lay down and relax in peace and quiet.

Of course, with its history some of the more popular traveller destinations are the historical sites and probably the most popular is Knossos. Knossos is famous for being the home of King Minos and the legend of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth. The ruins that stand today date back from the bronze age and were built on the site of the original Palace which was destroyed by an earthquake.
